Leona Lumikki Kunnamo (born 2002) began playing the piano at the age of five under the guidance of Taiju Kaartinen. In 2014 she began studying with Katarina Nummi-Kuisma, and since 2017 she has studied under Sanna Vaarni. She passed her C-exam with an excellent grade in 2018. She has participated in numerous master classes in Finland and abroad taught by artists such as Konstantin Bogino. Leona was accepted at the Youth Piano Academy in the autumn of 2018.
In 2015 and 2017, Leona won one of the main prizes in the Tapiola Piano Competition. In the international piano competition Festival Musica in Laguna d’Arte, she won second prize in 2015 for competitors under 12 years old and the first prize in 2016 in the category of 13- to 16-year-olds. In 2018 she represented Espoo Music Institute in the Leevi Madetoja Piano Competition, becoming a finalist.
Leona has performed as a soloist of the Orchestra Cittá di Chioggia in 2015 and 2017, in her own lunch concert at the PianoEspoo Festival (2017), in the international FEstaRi Chamber Music Festival (2018) and her own concert at the Steinway Gallery Helsinki (2019).
Leona is studying her first year in Tapiola High School’s music line. Besides playing the piano, Leona loves horseback riding and competes regularly in both dressage and show jumping.
